Shag Islet Cruising YC
Ever tried to cram 1,000 people onto a
football field while hosting a sausage sizzle
plus dancing amongst the rocks to fabulous
music? Well on the 25th August the annual
Shag Islet Party will start at 11.30am, with
kite flying and live entertainment.
This year’s rendezvous will be between
the 25-28 August with anchorages off both
Montes Reef Resort and the Gloucester
Resort either side of Shag Islet. Holding
is good over a sand bottom and there is
plenty of room for everyone. This year we
expect some 200 boats (power and sail)
with approximately 1,000 people taking
part. Don’t worry about arriving early as
fun ashore starts when you arrive. ‘ Early
Bird’ activities will commence on Tuesday
23 August at both Cape Gloucester and
Montes Reef Resort.
If you want to be involved in assisting
with events, a Volunteers meeting will be
held at Montes Reef Resort at 3.30pm 24th
and 25th August at Montes Reef Resort.
Why not help make it all happen?
Club Marine Pittwater to
Southport race replaces
In light of the damage caused to Coffs
Harbour marina when a severe east coast
low hit the region in June, the finish of the
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club’s signature
offshore event is moving to Southport on
the Queensland Gold Coast for 2017.
Coffs Harbour marina and other
local businesses suffered infrastructure
damage when giant waves crashed over the
northern breakwall during the peak of the
June storm breaking finger-wharves from
their moorings and destroying part of the
timber boardwalk that provide access to
yachts berthed at the marina.
The event will start from the traditional
Coffs Race start line just north of Palm
Beach Headland at 1pm on January 2,
2 017 and cover a course length of 370nm,
an extra 145nm.
