Yanmar Powers ‘Freedom’
The dive business is booming world-
wide and nowhere in Australia is it more
pronounced than on the Great Barrier Reef.
Back in May 2015, the 37m dive vessel Spirit of
Freedom was repowered with a pair of Yanmar
6HYM-WET engines and 6,000 hours later the
owners could not be more pleased.
Brought into the Tusa Dive fleet to
operate from Cairns as a liveaboard boat, they
offer variety of 3, 4 and 7-day trips, taking a
complement of 26 divers to the Great Barrier
Reef and also remote Coral Sea reefs.
The Yanmar 6HYM-WET is a 6 -cylinder
in-line block which has a displacement of
13.733 litres and an all up weight of 1,386kgs.
This model engine is continuously rated to
develop 500mhp (368 kW) at 1950rpm.
These engines are IMO Tier 2 compliant,
ensuring emissions are exceptionally low, an
important consideration when operating on
the Great Barrier Reef.

Marinaquip Docking Wheels
Marinaquip Docking Wheels are a rolling
“bumper” device designed to assist with
smooth docking manoeuvres, while also
offering protection to both the boat and the
dock. They can be Installed in minutes at
any berth in any marina. Built to last using
PU (poly-urethane) closed cell technology.
Butchart Marine Services were asked by a
world-renowned marina builder to design an
improved solution to the problems associated
with other products. Our solution comes in
the form of a unique and highly robust molded
PU foam wheel on a PE plastic hub.
The wheel is mounted on a substantial
bracket (stainless steel and galvanised
options available) with double plane
(perpendicular) fastening points and a large
diameter axle. All of this re-design and re-
engineering now provides the necessary
strength and deflation-proof cushioning for
the benefit of both the dock master and the

Furlex Electric – the next
Furlex is by far the world’s largest selling
jib furling system, and Seldén has recently
launched their 4th generation of this iconic
News for 2018 is a development of their
electric driven Furlex models for 30-45ft boats
with 6-10mm forestays.
Furlex 204E and Furlex 304E feature a
weather proof outer shell of composite and
a DC/DC converter, converting 12V or 24V to
48V power. That makes for thin cables from
the converter to the furler and a compact and
highly efficient electric motor.
It can be retro-fitted to existing manual
Furlex systems, model year 1998 and newer. To
retrofit electric operation to a manual Furlex
will cost approximately $4,000 ex-GST.
