Melbourne Boat Show

In 2018, the Melbourne Boat Show will
be celebrating its 58th year of operation,
making it one of the longstanding boat
shows in the whole of Australia.
It is the largest and premier boat
show in Victoria, attracting boaters, water
sport enthusiasts, fishing aficionados
and non-boaters alike, state-wide,

The J24 Southern Sydney Fleet with the
assistance of the Cronulla Sailing Club will
again be conducting the 2018 Cronulla J24
This year’s event will be on the June
long weekend with racing over the Saturday
and Sunday 09-10 June.
Racing will be conducted using the
windward/leeward format over a short
750m distance. This keeps the racing ticking
over, guaranteeing fast and close One
Design racing for the resurgent J24 Class.
Of even more importance will be the
BBQs hosted by the Cronulla Sailing Club
for all competitors.
This will be the last regatta Australian
teams will be competing in as they prepare
for the J24 World Championships being
conducted over mid-August this year in
Italy. Six Australian teams will be making

Australian Sailing Hall of
Fame nominations open
Nominations have opened for the
Australian Sailing Hall of Fame. In only
its second year, the Hall of Fame initiative
was established by Australian Sailing in
collaboration with the Australian National
Maritime Museum to recognise the greats
of our sport.
The Australian Sailing Hall of Fame
will recognise those with the highest
achievements in the sport. In its infancy, the
Hall of Fame will be in ‘catch up’ mode and
a phased approach to inducting nominees
will be applied.

exhibition highlighting the 2017 inductees
has been visiting events and sailing clubs
around the country, and has had more
than 10,000 visitors since December 2017.

New Zealand Boat Show

The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat
Show is the country’s longest-running,

Keepit Kool Regatta at
Lake Keepit Sailing club will host its
50th Keepit Kool Regatta on 9, 10 & 11 June.
This family friendly regatta includes all
classes of OTB dinghies and cats plus sports
boats and trailerable yachts. Lake Keepit has
heaps of space for rigging and camping, plus
cabins and powered sites in the adjacent Lake
Keepit Reflections Holiday Park.
Lake Keepit Sailing Club is famous for
its food and hospitality. Log fires, evening
entertainment for all ages. Club boats are
available for visitors (book early).

James Cameron –
Challenging the Deep exhibition
A major new immersive exhibition about
the history-making deep-sea expeditions
of deep-sea explorer and director James
Cameron is currently at the Australian
National Maritime Museum.
The exhibition takes visitors to the
depths of our oceans through the lens of
Cameron’s underwater cameras and his
other incredible technological innovations
that have enabled us to see the least known
places on earth.
He has led eight major deep-sea
expeditions and many submersible dives,
including the first seafloor-to-surface live
Cameron’s expeditions, in
collaboration with oceanographic and
scientific institutions, have documented
the shipwrecks of RMS Titanic and the
German battleship Bismarck, ex plored
deep ocean phenomena such as black
smoker hydrothermal vents and revealed
James Cameron – Challenging the Deep will
run until 30 January 2019. Tickets are $20
adults, $12 child/concession or $50 families.
