The remarkable Trogear bowsprit
Bowsprits are back in fashion and why
wouldn’t they be?
They are an easy way to increase sail
area thus boat speed and ultimately sailing
enjoyment. The Trogear bowsprit takes this
further with ease of use and the ability to be
removed or stowed upright keeping the deck
Red Paddle Co
Red Paddle Co was co-founded by John
Hibbard in 2008.
“Paddleboarding was just getting going,
and we had this craz y idea that it could be
made better with inflatable boards,” Hibbard
said. “People thought this was a bit strange.
Surely you could never make the boards stiff
enough to get the kind of performance you’d
expect from a hard board? You’d just end up
with a lilo, all bendy in the middle. Yet over
time, we’ve convinced the doubters.
“Our background is in pro watersports
competition. We wanted to make a product
that even the experts loved. So we engineered
a quality, high performing board you can take
with you wherever you go. A board that means
you’re free to explore with the bonus of being
able to pack up and stow away.
“ We make boards that deliver an authentic
paddleboarding experience and we continue
to design and source products that will make
pumping easier and transportation simple.
Our Titan pump is the fastest and easiest hand
pump currently available.”

The Trogear bowsprit was born in 2012
when short-handed sailor and engineer Henry
Dokonal needed a quicker and safer solution to
launch and carry his sails. Word quickly spread
and his bowsprit now sells in over 18 countries.
The fixed geometry of the Trogear bowsprit
and 100% carbon fibre structure is engineered
for the most direct transfer of forces to the hull
and allows asymmetrical and Code-0 sails to be
carried. There are no mechanical bonds or heav y
parts for an extremely lightweight product.
The Trogear bowsprit comes in four sizes
and is available from Bombora Marine.
